How does trash/garbage get picked up in Rockrimmon?
The city of Colorado Springs has no municipal trash service and Discovery HOA does not contract for single vendor pickup, so homeowners are obligated to make their own arrangements for commercial pickup (please note that no local trash services can pick up some items -- see the "Restricted Trash Items" FAQ). Fortunately, we have a number of trash service options here in Rockrimmon. Here are a few in alphabetical order -- your board doesn't recommend any particular vendor.
Apex Waste Systems (the union of Infinite and Carefree disposal services) picks up trash weekly on Tuesdays in Discovery, and recyclables every other Tuesday. While they generally offer senior rates and some other discounts, they are not advertised online...you will need to call the office to arrange those. SNAPP Trash picks up trash or recycling in Discovery on any weekday you desire. No monthly fees and no contract. They provide 96-gallon bins and charge $9 per pickup which is ideal for their target market - small families or retirees.
SOCO Waste Systems picks up on xx in Discovery on a 24-month contract or "invoice-to-invoice service". They provide 96-gallon bins for which they charge a $30 one-time delivery fee.
Springs Waste Systems picks up on Fridays in Discovery. They offer a wide range of services including animal resistant containers and single-stream recycling pickup on a weekly basis for an additional $6/mo. They have no hidden fees for cancellation, fuel price fluctuation, or random environmental issues. Check the Springs Waste Systems website for more detailed information.
Waste Connections picks up in Discovery. They offer a range of services, including bi-weekly recycling pickup for an additional $30 quarterly. While they do not add fuel or dump fees to your bill, they do charge $20 for initial delivery of your 96-gal cart and $30 for pickup of the cart upon when you cancel your service (also, a $50 "early termination fee" if you cancel service before your current billing cycle is over. Waste Management of Colorado Springs picks up on Fridays in Discovery. They offer a range of services, including bi-weekly recycling pickup for an additional $5/month. They also add for each cart a "fuel surcharge" of about $5.61 monthly as well as an $.81 "regulatory cost recovery charge" monthly. However, these extra charges vary so you may want to ask them for their current (or recent average) surcharge rate.
